Islands & Grottoes

Location: Pac Bo Cave is located in Trung Hoa Commune, Ha Quang District, Cao Bang Province, and 350km from the north of Hanoi.
Characteristics: Pac Bo is known nationwide as a revolutionary resistance base.
Situated about 7-8 km south-east of Bai Cháy lies the small Ti Top Island.
Quan Lan Island belongs to Bái Tu Long Bay; part of an island range on the outside of the gulf of Bac Bo. It has an area of 11 sq. km, and features eight populated hamlets. Quan Lan Island stretch toward East – West from the foot of Vân Ðon Range to the Gót Mount with many high mountains to the east barring waves and winds, protect the villages.
The Trinh Nu Grotto or Virgin Grotto is situated on the island range of Bô Hon in the system comprising the Sung Sôt Grotto, Dong Tiên Lake and Luon Grotto. It is 15 km south of Bai Cháy Beach. For fishermen, the Virgin Grotto is their house, but for young lovers, it is considered as the symbol of truly love, and is the romantic place for taking oath of love.
The Tam Cung Grotto or Three-palace Grotto is situated in the centre of Ha Long Bay, 5 km from Sung Sôt Grotto to the northeast. The grotto itself is divided into three parts; after threading the stone cracks, you find the first chamber. Many beautiful forms can be garnered from the rocky shapes.
The grotto is on Driftwood Island. Seen from afar, the entrance to the grotto appears to be blue, and has a shape similar to that of a jellyfish. After 90 steps up the island, the entrance is reached. The ceiling of the grotto is about 25 m. Hundreds of stalactites falling down from the roof of the grotto look like a waterfall.
It is situated on the south-west side the bay, 4 km from the wharf outside of Ha Long City. The way to Thiên Cung is a perilous one, covered on both sides by thick forest. After entering a narrow gate, the grotto’s 130-meter-long girth opens up. Getting in we are more astonished in front of the very animated and splendid beauty which is made from stalactite. Location: The island of An Binh - Binh Hoa Phuoc emerges from the middle of the Tien River, just opposite to the Vinh Long Town. The island has four communes, including An Binh, Binh Hoa Phuoc, Hoa Ninh, and Dong Phu in Long Ho District.
The Ngoc Vung Island is a pretty site sitting between the Net Islet and Phuong Hoang (Phoenix) Island, in the Van Don District. This island looks like a beautiful velvet handkerchief with exquisite white edgings; it seems to float on the water surface.
Formed approximately 250 million years ago, give or take a few million years, Phong Nha Cave is the largest and most beautiful cave in Vietnam. Located in the village of Son Trach, 55km northwest of Dong Hoi, it was designated a Unesco World Heritage site in 2000.
Location: Tiger Island is located in My Hoa Hung Commune, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province.
Characteristics: The island had been raised by the silt of Hau River. There is the wooden house where preserves artifacts of President Ton Duc Thang on the island.
Situated in the centre of the UNESCO-declared World Heritage area, the Sung Sot or Surprise Grotto is on Bo Hon Island, and is one of the finest and widest grottoes of Ha Long Bay. Ascending to the grotto, the way is covered by trees and foliage, and consists of great paved stone blocks.
Tien Son Cave, originally called Dry Cave, lies in Phong Nha - Ke Bang tourist complex that comprises natural beauty-spots in Quang Binh province (central Vietnam). The site is now on the list to be recommended to UNESCO for recognition as a World Heritage Site.
On the south-west side of Hạ Long City it is Tuan Chau Island, a schist island, very pretty, with a luxuriant forest. It has an area of 220 ha, and to the east and south are two beaches endowed with very white and fine sand. In 1962, Ho Chi Minh visited Ha Long Bay and made a stop here for vacation. Nowadays, Tuan Chau Island is one of the most attractive destinations in Ha Long City.
Cu Lao Cham is a large island consists of several small islands distance 25 nautical miles off the coast from Hoi An.
Situated on Bo Hon Island, 14 km south of Bai Chay Beach is the Luon Grotto. In front of the grotto is Con Rua Islet, and the Sky Gate is on the right. Here the cliffs stretch vertically out of the pure blue and smooth water. At the water-level, an arched entrance leads to the grotto, just at the base of the island.
Cat Ba is the biggest island (100 sq. km) out of the 366 islands on the Lan Ha Bay. It is a tourist spot, attractive for its natural beauty and wonders endowed by nature.
